Could the “Girl Power” movement be making a comeback? It’s been six years since all five members of the UK’s most iconic girl group were in the same room together. This can only mean one thing, a bloody Spice Girls reunion is coming!
I think my inner 90’s child has just screamed with joy at this potential affair. Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby Spice are all said to be reforming for a series of shows. Though Victoria and Geri are said to be refusing to commit to a ‘fully-fledged tour’ due to their family commitments.
There are a few projects in the pipeline, including; a greatest hits album, a televised talent show, product endorsements and even some shows in China.
The last reunion tour that the girls did was back in 2007 where tickets for the arena tour sold out in minutes!
Though they’ve been gone for a while, the love for the Spice Girls is still very much alive.
The last time the group all performed together was in 2012 for the closing ceremony of the London Olympics. Crowds went wild when they realised the group were all in attendance and hysteria kicked in when they started singing a medley of their greatest hits.
This reignited the 90’s cult power of the Spice Girls bringing forth a new generation of fans and reigniting the love of those who remember them from the group’s conception.
Over the past few years, there have been numerous attempts to reform Britain’s best-loved girl group but to no success. Victoria has stated that she wouldn’t do a reunion as she’s now focusing on her fashion career and Mel C has stated that she wouldn’t reunite unless all the girls were in it together (which she doubted they would be).
Though in the summer of 2016, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Halliwell (now Geri Horner) said they would start writing music as a trio under the name of GEM but nothing much materialised other than a leaked song.
However, on Thursday night, reports of a get together had surfaced. Mel B, 42 was seen flying out of Los Angeles and is believed to have been heading out for a secret meeting with Victoria Beckham, 43, Emma Bunton, 42, Mel C, 44 and Geri Horner, 45 in London.
It’s understood that Victoria Beckham has completed the line-up which will see them all pocket a lovely £10million each. But that’s on the condition that she doesn’t have to sing.
An insider recently told The Sun “This is the pop reunion no one thought would ever happen again. But after a long period of negotiation Victoria agreed the time is right to work on new projects this year.”
While a singing tour is said to be off the table, the paper reports that projects are being considered which should include a compilation album to celebrate their greatest hits; hosting a televised talent show; product endorsements and working on shows in China with the famous 5 expecting to get a £10million payout each.
The last reunion the quintet had was when the 5 girls met for a press conference to promote the launch of the Spice Girls-themed musical Viva Forever! but they did not perform.
I sincerely hope that they do reunite, a tour would be spectacular as I never had the opportunity to see them in my youth and I feel like it would be a deathbed regret if I don’t get the opportunity as an adult. Please bring some Girl Power back in our lives!
