Put down your crystals, finish that bite of your wumpa fruit and prepare to have your 90’s kid noggin explode. There are huge talks about a new Crash Bandicoot game coming next year! I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy.
But what could it possibly be? Would it be another remaster? Will it be a brand new game? Could we finally get a Crash Bandicoot meets Spyro the Dragon crossover?! My brain can’t cope.
2017 saw the highly anticipated release of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy – the PlayStation 4 remastered version of the original 3 Crash Bandicoot titles; Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.
The remaster was a huge success, selling out everywhere and with a ton of digital downloads from the PlayStation Store online.
The original titles that paved the way for the PlayStation 1 was a groundbreaking franchise that was much loved by all. So much so that the lovable bandicoot became the mascot for PlayStation. (And he still sort of is today).
Following the huge success, it’s been said that there will be a new game coming out next year. According to a spring edition of licensing trade publication Licensing Source Book Europe, Activision will be releasing more Crash Bandicoot titles in the not so distant future.
“Activision have a five-year plan for this and GB Eye is delighted to be fully on board for all products.” – Max Arguile, Licensing Manager of GB Eye.
Arguile also suggested the following for Crash Bandicoot:
– Activision is planning a PC and Nintendo Switch release for the N.Sane trilogy. There have also been rumours of an Xbox release for quite some time now after a period of exclusivity of the Crash Bandicoot series for the PS4.
– Activision has plans for a new Crash Bandicoot game in 2019.
– Activision could be restarting the franchise as a whole with new titles through 2022.
Sadly, nothing has yet been made official but Lord above would life be swell if it were true! The N.Sane Trilogy was an absolute smash hit for the PlayStation 4. According to Activision, it was the ‘number one top-selling remaster collection in PS4 history’. That’s an impressive title to hold.
Now, based on the statements we have seen so far if 2022 is going to bring entirely new titles to the franchise. That would surely mean that 2019 is going to be another remaster?
Crash Team Racing
The internet has already gone wild with rumours and requests for a Crash Team Racing reboot.
This would be epic! CTR was the ‘Mario Kart’ equivalent of the PlayStation world and it was a huge success when it came out originally back in 1999 and it was the 4th instalment of the series. If they’re wanting to go chronologically, this would surely be the next game in line.
Another game that would blow our minds would be Crash Bash – the fun-filled party game from the year 2000 that allows you to play multiplayer with a buddy to survive a variety of incredible party-game battles.
Now, personally, this was the greatest game to ever have been released on the PlayStation. I think it’s fun, it was challenging, each game type was different, the boss battles were visually exciting and who doesn’t want to play a Crash game with a friend?!
My brother and I sunk quite a lot of hours on this game as kids and it’s one I absolutely PRAY will get a remaster, for those who never played it, you will be enthralled, for those who have, you will weep as you hop back on your pogo stick or in clamber into your tank in high definition.
We all pray from the bottom of our hearts that all the rumours go ahead, I need some more Crash and friends in my life and a remaster would be the perfect way for me to feel my fantasy. (Plus I want to hear the hip-happening beats blast through my console once more).
Which game would you like to see remastered the most? Or would you want to see a totally new game? At Thirsty we love hearing all of your opinions, so please let us know what you thought of the article in the comment section below. 🎮
