“It’s one small step for man, one giant road-tax avoidance for Elon Musk”. I’m sure by now you’ve all seen the incredibly fascinating news that was the SpaceX rocket launch the other day. SpaceX has successfully launched the heaviest rocket ever, the Falcon Heavy.
After years of technical issues and delays, the rocket took to the skies to much awe and admiration. What really impressed people was how 2 out of the 3 boosters managed to return to Earth with perfect synchronisation.
Not only that, but they returned intact and are ready to be refurbished and used again. This really is a game-changer.
But that’s not all, to add even more whimsy and wonder to the event, Musk sent a Tesla convertible as a featured payload of the giant rocket. The Tesla car is now orbiting Earth and providing it doesn’t explode, it’s set to “hopefully” orbit Mars. Now that’s way cooler than planting a flag on the moon!
What’s better is that you can watch a live stream of the car travelling through space. (Video at the bottom of the article). It even has a ‘Spaceman’ in the driver’s seat that is said to be listening to David Bowie’s ‘Life On Mars‘ through the cars stereo.
I don’t think there could be a more fitting song for such an occasion. What an honour and a tribute to the late great musician.
Why the SpaceX launch of the Falcon Heavy rocket is such a huge deal for Elon Musk:
But even with this huge technological advancement, break through and cultural milestone, there are still a ton of people on the internet creating memes with excellent pop culture and sci-fi references. I can’t imagine there being any pre-internet memes from the Moon Landing.
We’ve collated some of our favourites from the web. Everything from why Elon Musk could be the next super villain to the parking fines and awful directions from SatNavs.
Have a gander through the list and let us know which ones were your favourites.
